Natural Awakenings Central Florida / Orlando

Letter from the Publisher July 2020

Jul 01, 2020 07:09PM ● By Margaret Mary Jones

This July edition marks the start of our 21st year publishing here in Central Florida! With hopes for continuing to make a healthy difference in the lives of all who enjoy this magazine, we extend our heartfelt thanks for your input, loyalty and support. To you—both readers and advertisers—we would not be here without you!

As we distribute throughout four counties: Orange, Seminole, Lake & Osceola, we welcome all the new readers. If your business, church and/or community center would like to receive each monthly issue, give us a call (407-628-0705), and we will add you to our route! In addition, our magazine is always available online at NACFL.com. We have compiled a link to many past articles which support the immune system. There is a wealth of information offering DIY and natural
remedies there.

During these stressful times, it is easy to get caught up worrying about the unknown. May this edition ease your health concerns. Now, more than ever, taking charge of your own health is crucial. You are what you eat, drink and think. And, how about your yard?

My mother reminded me that during WWII times in the 1940s, most Americans had “Victory Gardens,” where they grew their own vegetables. Neighbors shared their delicious specialties. Even if you live in an urban area, community gardens offer plots. And, patio gardening is an option, too. The South Seminole Farm and Nursery offers free classes on organic gardening. See page 8 for the July and August topics. Whatever we can plant to relieve our budget—and add to our own health—should be a worthy goal. Children learn so much and can delight in the small beginnings which, eventually, they can harvest, too. And, what a satisfaction to have a forkful of salad, with no additives! I especially love growing my own herbs.

Finally, since gatherings of groups are still discouraged in Central FL, this edition excludes our popular calendar section. We do hope you can find special times to get outside for exercise, fresh air and natural Vitamin D (sunshine). Remember: Better days are sure to come!
