Central Florida/Greater Orlando Edition: January 2020
am writing this letter in mid-December—the most wonderful time of the year. However, it is not so wonderful for some. I gained much encouragement by listening to Rev Cynthia Alice Anderson (aka RCA) Podcast (#77) last week. Even though it is now a New Year, I am certain you will enjoy her Podcast which offers practical living tips, including how to deal with Central FL traffic! Visit Experience of the Soul and listen anytime for free.
Another wonderful thing I did: Shared popcorn with friend at movie “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” featuring Tom Hanks as Mr. Fred Rogers. Since I was not allowed to watch much television as a child, little did I know about this long-running PBS show. After the movie I researched Mister Rogers. He graduated from Rollins College and was an ordained minister and a vegetarian. If you’d like to learn more, here is an excellent link to a radio interview: https://youtu.be/BvDUUqcUP3Y
In the next February edition, I plan on sharing more about this Emotional Archeologist (Rogers was always searching for the roots of behavior). His coined question: “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?” is an invitation to all. And, I believe, everyone has a need to feel closeness.
Speaking of the neighborhood, this is the most wonderful time of the year to live in Central FL. No question! We are blessed with the perfect weather, many waterways, beaches and surrounding green spaces. Check out the mind-body healing connection in the Ronica O’Hara article, Green Therapy (pp 20-21). Where do You commune with nature?
Interestingly, Carl Greer asks: “Is it time to Tidy Your Bucket List?” (See p 16.) My desires change as I age and gain wisdom. I remember my ‘ole list was full of exotic destinations where I don’t speak their language. These days (with me in the driver seat of a boat or car), I want to stay close to home. Making things with my hands—gardening, creating art especially with textiles (wool, paper, fiber)—and singing is on my list.
Please share with me how Your “Bucket List” has changed—for the better.
Happy New Year—and New Decade!
