Understanding the Crown Chakra

Feb 28, 2023 09:31AM ● By Kara Dewey
A seven-month editorial series began with the Root Chakra (Sept), Sacral Chakra (Oct), Solar Plexus (Nov), Heart (Dec), Throat (Jan), Brow (Feb), March is all about the Crown Chakra. What is it? What organs are affected? How can I support my energy body health?

Chakras are an integral part of physical, psychological and spiritual functions. Chakras are whirling energy centers correlated to acupuncture points. These energy centers control and energize major organs. When they malfunction, the vital organs become sick or dis-eased because they can become unbalanced. Lack of balance occurs when there is not enough (or conversely too much) life energy or prana.

The Crown is the seventh of seven chakras. It is located at the top of your head.  Also known as Sahasrara (Sanskrit), it represents your spiritual connection to others and the universe. Universal flow of energy happens when you awaken this chakra.

The Butterfly is associated with the crown. It symbolizes renewal, transformation and enlightenment, as it connects one to universal wisdom.

The frequency to open the crown is 936 Hz. The pituitary gland (secondarily with the pineal and the hypothalamus), works together to regulate the endocrine system which is all of the body’s biological processes. When the crown chakra is unbalanced, it could lead to hair loss, chronic fatigue, amnesia, coordination issues, chronic headaches and migraines.

Since the psychological function is all about clear perspective and spiritual understanding, a balanced crown chakra gives you the ability to stay in gratitude and compassion with a strong intuition. When it malfunctions there are issues with self knowledge and inability to learn.

Violet and white are the colors of spirituality. They bring a strong emotion of letting go, combined with the joy of transformation. Wear them!

Foods to support this chakra are high-alkaline water and foods. Fasting is also supportive.

Try essential oils such as Rosewood, White Lotus, German Chamomile, Rose Geranium and Blood Orange.

A recommended yoga pose is Rabbit Pose. Sit on your heels and shins with a straight spine. Reach your hands back and grab your ankles. Inhale and reach the crown of your head towards the sky. Exhale, curl your chin into your chest and then continue with the rest of your spine until the top of your head comes to rest on the mat. Inhale, lift your hips off of your heels, pushing your head gently into the mat as you push into your shins and top of your feet for balance.. Hold for 3-5 breaths.

The crystals/gems are Amethyst, Clear Quartz, Selenite, Howlite, Labradorite, Sugilite , Lapis Lazuli and  Moonstone.

Affirmations include: “I am open to letting go of my attachments.”  “I live in the present moment.”
