Flourishing Through Food

Feb 26, 2026 01:16PM ● By Daralyn & Scott Chase

As we move through March in Central Florida, there’s a subtle shift in the air. The mornings are a little lighter, the afternoons a bit warmer and many of us begin thinking about renewal—clearing space, opening windows and refreshing routines. It’s a natural time to reflect on how we nourish ourselves and how everyday choices can help us truly flourish.

This month’s theme, Nourish & Flourish: Using Food to Heal, invites us to look at what’s on our plates in a new way. We’ve learned so much in recent years about the role food plays in inflammation, metabolism and long-term vitality. It’s no longer just about avoiding deficiency. It’s about supporting optimal function at the cellular level and understanding that nourishment is an ongoing conversation between what we eat and how our bodies respond.

Our feature story explores anti-inflammatory and elimination diets, offering insight into how intentional, food-first approaches can calm chronic symptoms and restore balance. When guided thoughtfully, these strategies can help us identify sensitivities, reduce inflammation and build a sustainable foundation for wellness without turning food into something restrictive or stressful.

We also highlight the growing role of functional lab testing in personalizing health. By looking more closely at digestion, nutrient absorption and hormone balance, practitioners are helping individuals move beyond guesswork. The goal is not to chase perfection, but to gain clarity—so each of us can make informed, empowering decisions about our health.

On page 14, our Wellness Expert article, Fuel to Flourish, takes a deeper look at optimizing omega-3 levels. While many of us know omega-3s are important, emerging research suggests that achieving optimal levels may require more than the minimum daily recommendation. The article explores how EPA and DHA support cellular resilience, cardiovascular health and balanced inflammation. For those seeking plant-based options, Norsan offers a complete vegan omega-3 sourced from microalgae, providing both EPA and DHA in a thoughtfully formulated, sustainably produced oil. It’s one example of how science and whole-food principles can come together in practical, accessible ways.

On page 16, we spotlight Mermaid’s Magic Sea Moss, a whole-food approach to mineral nourishment rooted in tradition and transparency. Sea moss, a mineral-rich red algae, is finding new life in modern kitchens as families look for simple, food-based ways to support digestion, energy and overall vitality. What we appreciate most is the emphasis on quality sourcing and minimal processing, reminding us that sometimes nourishment begins with returning to what the body already recognizes and knows how to use.

Throughout this issue, we’re reminded that healing doesn’t have to be extreme. It can begin with small, consistent shifts—adding more color to our plates, paying attention to how we feel after meals and choosing quality sources of essential nutrients. In a community as vibrant and resourceful as Central Florida, we’re fortunate to have practitioners, educators and wellness advocates who make this journey more approachable.

As you explore these pages, we invite you to read with curiosity and compassion for yourself. Notice what resonates. Try one new recipe, ask one new question, make one supportive change. Nourishment is not about perfection. It’s about progress, awareness and the willingness to care for ourselves in ways that help us truly flourish.

With gratitude for this thriving community,
