The Perfect Summer Day

A perfect summer day is when the sun is shining, the breeze is blowing, the birds are singing and the lawn mower is broken. ~James Dent

I love the above quote, and I am adapting it to be—a perfect summer day is when the internet is down and the WiFi is turned off. I am ready for those perfect days ahead. Look at our calendar (pp25- 27). Try to keep Saturdays June 3 and 24 open—there are so many options especially then. The Full Moon Drum Circle (6/3 at Unity of CFL) is a safe, family-friendly one. And don’t miss the free BBQ Event (6/24 11am-3pm at all 7 Chamberlin’s locations). These past two months I have been eating mostly raw/living foods to lighten up. However, Chamberlin’s will be offering free “veggie-dogs” with summertime snacks and drinks. Hope to see you there!

Each June, in conjunction with Father’s Day, we celebrate men. As complicated as it may be at times to live with them, we women know they are a necessary ingredient in our lives—whether they be friends, husbands, fathers, grandfathers or mentors. Whatever the male role in our lives, we need to encourage them to take care of themselves.

How will you celebrate Father’s Day (Sunday 6/18)? My dear father Rod Jones (who passed from Parkinson’s June 2019) was a long[1]time Tour Guide/Captain at Winter Park Scenic Boat Tours. He would say it was the most pleasurable A perfect summer day is when the sun is shining, the breeze is blowing, the birds are singing and the lawn mower is broken. ~James Dent job of his life. As a WWII Navy veteran and a lifetime avid sailor, Rod loved being on the water and meeting new friends. (WP Scenic Boat Tours is also known as “the Venice of Florida.” See p8.) In memory of my father, our family is looking forward to another 12-mile tour this month.

One of my favorite tasks as a Publisher is to find Cover Art. At the Cassadaga bookstore, I purchased a 2023 monthly wall calendar called Celtic Mandalas by Jen Delyth (See bio on p 8). Flipping ahead to July, I fell in love with her piece called AWEN, which is a Welsh word meaning “poetic inspiration.” I watched a couple YouTube videos on the history of this word. Being a Jones (with partial Welsh DNA), AWEN has become one of my favorite words. It is possible to have AWEN moments—inspiring universal energy flows through all of us—if we let it!

June is National Scoliosis Month. Author Cristina Parker shares tips on how to Straighten Up (pp20-21). This past winter I was reminded that “sitting” is worse than “smoking” or other bad habits. I found an affordable Stand-Up Desk Converter. And now I wonder: How did I manage the past decades sitting long hours at a computer? Ernest Hemingway often wrote standing at a podium—now I know why! This was the best office purchase ever. My electric model easily adjusts to different heights depending on the soles of my shoes.

And speaking of shoes, kick them off! Walk barefoot outside; your root chakra will be grateful, too. (See Barefoot Blessings, p13).
